Planning and practicing your home escape plan with your family is one of the most important things you can do in the event your smoke or carbon monoxide alarm sounds. Plan at least two ways out of your home, including windows, and then practice it. If you have a window high above the ground consider purchasing an emergency escape ladder for that room. Select a meeting place outside to make sure everyone is out. Once everyone is outside, call 911.
Never go back into the house if there is a fire. If you cannot get out of your room, close the door and seal the bottom with a towel or sheet.
