Arbor Day

Bismarck Arbor Day

The City of Bismarck's 2017 Arbor Day celebration took place on Friday, May 5th at Sunrise Park located at 3201 Northrop Drive in northeast Bismarck.  We were joined by 5th grade classes and teachers from Sunrise Elementary School who shared a song...Trees, Trees, Trees!

A Bur Oak tree was planted and dedicated to Donald DuFrame in recognition of the thousands of trees he touched during his years of service as an arborist with the City of Bismarck Forestry Division from 1981 to 2006.

The City of Bismarck received recognition for its 40th year as a Tree City USA.  Appleseed Awards for planting on public property in 2016 and a Beautification Award for planting on private property in 2016 were given as well as recognition of our 2016 Partners In Planting program sponsors.

Other Celebration Activities

Many other activities take place on Arbor Day. Ceremonial Arbor Day trees are dedicated to local citizens whose efforts have made a significant contribution to Bismarck's urban forest. Third and fourth grade students in Bismarck's elementary schools are provided the opportunity to view educational videos about Arbor Day and the care of trees. Forrest Von Flickentale, a flickertail gopher and the Forestry Division mascot, helps with tree planting ceremonies and works to promote and inspire tree planting and care.
