Arbor Day

Bismarck Arbor Day

In North Dakota, we celebrate Arbor Day the first Friday in May. Bismarck hosts a ceremonial planting and community recognition program each year.

The 2017 Arbor Day celebration will take place on Friday, May 5th at Sunrise Park located at 3201 Northrop Drive in northeast Bismarck.

A Bur Oak tree will be planted and dedicated to Donald DuFrame in recognition of the thousands of trees he touched during his years of service as an arborist with the City of Bismarck Forestry Division from 1981 to 2006.

Other Celebration Activities

Many other activities take place on Arbor Day. Ceremonial Arbor Day trees are dedicated to local citizens whose efforts have made a significant contribution to Bismarck's urban forest. Third and fourth grade students in Bismarck's elementary schools are provided the opportunity to view educational videos about Arbor Day and the care of trees. Forrest Von Flickentale, a flickertail gopher and the Forestry Division mascot, helps with tree planting ceremonies and works to promote and inspire tree planting and care.
