What is Emergency Preparedness?

The events and responses to the September 11, 2001, attacks prompted the implementation of more advanced Emergency Preparedness programs and measures. Today, the Emergency Preparedness division at Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health works with local, state and federal programs and entities to ensure safe measures and best practices are being followed prior to an emergency. In the event of an emergency, plans have been created to help a community recover from that emergency more quickly.

The department is trained in, and utilizes, the Incident Command System (ICS), as well as National Incident Management System (NIMS), to provide an efficient and standardized approach to the management of an incident.

Preparedness Exercise (Conducted on October 18, 2017)

Southwest Central (SWC) Regional Emergency Preparedness completed its full-scale mobile distribution exercise on October 18, 2017. The mobile distribution process involved simulation of dispensing medication during an emergency to health facilities that can then dispense within their facility. An After Action Improvement Plan template is available below for attending agencies to utilize. Each facility must complete their own After Action Improvement Plan to get credit for the CMS rules.

This exercise is available to any entity/organization in the state that would like to participate, but the following steps must be completed:

Participating organizations are encouraged to attend the November 15 meeting at Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health to share their event results and After Action Reports with EPR staff.
