Bismarck Begins New Four-Day Residential Garbage Collection June 12

City of Bismarck Public Works Service Operations will begin four-day residential garbage collection effective June 12. Residential garbage collection routes and collection calendar dates will change for some customers.

The four-day collection system is designed to maximize efficiency while successfully meeting the needs of citizens and solves the Friday carryover of garbage collection until Monday during holiday weeks.  This eliminates the need for public works employees to assist with collecting garbage after holidays that resulted in them not being able to achieve the objectives of their divisions.

The Bismarck Board of City Commissioners voted March 14, to move ahead with the four-day per week curbside collection schedule, Monday through Thursday, after study and evaluation of the solid waste management collection system conducted by HDR, Inc. and from key recommendations and consideration received from citizens at two public input meetings held in February.

New Four-Day Residential Garbage Collection Schedule and Route Changes Effective June 12

  • Garbage must be set out at the curb by 6 am on your scheduled collection day.
  • Garbage collection employees will work four, ten-hour days, Monday-Thursday, and will complete garbage collection by 4:30 pm.
  • Garbage will be collected once per week.
  • No collection on holidays. Garbage collection will be delayed one day throughout the remainder of the week.
  • Garbage collection routes will change June 12:
  • View new four-day collection route map and calendar
  • View interactive garbage collection map
  • Recycling pickup will remain the same, on a five-day recycling schedule.
  • View recycling calendar
  • The recycling map and schedule are included in the new four-day collection brochure that is being mailed to each resident, as a reference.
